VOSU — Vote or Shut Up

ABOUT VOSU

Local power starts here. No spin. Just facts.

VOSU is a neutral, privacy-first civic utility. We do not tell you who to vote for — we show you exactly which officials and elections control the things you care about, and what it takes to move them.

WHO WE ARE

VOSU (Vote Or Shut Up) is a 100% neutral, privacy-first civic utility platform built to strip away political theater and give citizens direct access to the local levers of power that shape their daily lives.

We are not a political campaign, an advocacy group, or a media outlet. We do not tell you who to vote for, tell you what to believe, or nudge you toward any political ideology. VOSU is an honest mirror for democracy — hyper-local, verifiable data on candidates, budgets, and elections, so you can take real, measurable action in your own neighborhood.

Not a campaign
We run no candidates, fund no candidates, and take no position on any race on the platform.
Not an advocacy group
We do not lobby for outcomes. We show you the mechanism and the deadline; the position is yours.
Not a media outlet
No commentary, no hot takes, no engagement loop. Records and dates, not narratives.
THE PROBLEM WE SOLVE

A crisis of civic competence — not a shortage of information.

Most civic tech assumes the main obstacle facing voters is a lack of information. We diagnose something deeper: a crisis of civic competence, driven by tribal politics and outrage-driven media narratives.

When people enter politics through ideological team sports, they focus on symbolic national arguments rather than concrete local outcomes. Meanwhile, few citizens are ever taught where local authority actually resides — whether in a school board controlling enrollment policy, a city council directing transit budgets, or a county commissioner overseeing public-safety funds.

The school board
Sets enrollment and discipline policy, adopts curriculum, and signs off on the buildings your kids sit in — usually elected in the lowest-turnout race on the ballot.
The city council
Directs the transit budget, approves zoning changes, and decides which streets get repaved. Often decided by a few hundred votes.
The county commission
Oversees public-safety funds, the jail, roads, and the health department. Most residents cannot name a single commissioner.
VOSU was built to reconnect citizens with their own lived values — and to hand them the exact legal mechanisms needed to hold public officials accountable.
HOW WE OPERATE

Four operating principles that cannot be traded away.

01
Hard-coded political neutrality
VOSU never endorses candidates, ranks politicians, or uses persuasive language. Every AI and platform output is governed by strict, auditable templates restricted to factual statements — what a candidate said, how they voted, what they support or oppose. The exact templates are published on our Mission page.
02
The Gray-Box Rule
We drive transparency through merit, not opinion. If a candidate refuses to submit their platform or clarify their positions, VOSU displays a neutral gray box reading “No platform submitted.” We never scrape opinions or guess intent.
03
Zero-knowledge privacy
Your political beliefs and civic actions belong to you. Your reflection answers are locked to your account at the database row level, personal identifiers are stripped from the text before anything analyzes it, and we run no ad networks and no third-party analytics. Nothing is sold, ever. The full inventory is on our Privacy page.
04
Issue-first alignment
Every election and race is tagged to one of five Universal Levers of power. You start with what you care about, and VOSU reveals who controls it — not the other way around.
THE FIVE UNIVERSAL LEVERS

Everything on the ballot maps to one of five levers.

The same five categories work in a township of 4,000 and a city of 4 million, which is what lets VOSU expand beyond the United States without rebuilding its spine. Pick the lever that matters to you and the platform surfaces the offices, budgets, and deadlines attached to it.

01
Education Access & Quality
School boards and superintendents: enrollment policy, curriculum adoption, building budgets, bond and millage requests.
02
Public Safety & Crime
Sheriffs, prosecutors, judges, and the council votes that set police, fire, and emergency-response budgets.
03
Economic Security & Taxes
Assessors, treasurers, and the levies, millages, and line-item budgets a council or commission passes each cycle.
04
Health & Wellbeing
County health departments, hospital and mental-health authorities, water and sanitation boards, public clinics.
05
Housing & Transport
Zoning boards, planning commissions, and transit authorities: what gets built, what gets served, what gets funded.
HOW VOSU WORKS

From what you value to what you can actually move.

01
The Fog-Clearing Engine
Before you look at a single candidate or party, you answer a brief, reflective sequence that cuts through the political noise to identify your core lived values — what you actually want to protect in your daily life.
02
Instant personal power mapping
Enter a ZIP code or postcode and VOSU maps those values straight onto upcoming local elections, petitions, participatory budget votes, and council motions — including the turnout math that shows how much leverage your vote really carries.
03
Local cohorts & War Rooms
Civic change happens on your street, not on social media. VOSU organizes outcome-aligned neighbors into time-boxed, 12-week sprint groups — “Saturday 40” cohorts — with task boards, petition templates, and accountability tracking that turn intentions into community wins.
Browse first, sign in later
Searching your ZIP, reading races, and comparing candidate records need no account. A sign-in is only required where the platform starts holding something of yours — your reflection answers, your tracked ballots, and your cohort’s War Room.
WHAT WE WILL NEVER DO
  • Endorse, rank, score, or grade a candidate, party, or ballot measure.
  • Sell, rent, or broker your data — to a campaign, a data broker, or anyone else.
  • Profile you for advertising, or run third-party analytics and ad trackers.
  • Use persuasive language, psychological targeting, or behavioral nudging to move your vote.
  • Publish a candidate position we cannot attribute to a record, a filing, or their own words.
OUR VISION

We envision a world where civic competence is as fundamental as literacy — where citizens think like owners of their society rather than passive spectators.

Whether starting in local U.S. districts or expanding across 190+ countries, VOSU exists to provide the unyielding truth and the practical tools citizens need to build stronger, more accountable communities.
